Description
A large-scale, interactive piece illustrating ironies found in one column of an antiquated Webster's Dictionary, alphabetically from "Atli" through "atoll." Viewer entered room with swirling shadows illustrating time passing rapidly. Standing on the floor were several "A" frame game pieces, sand castings in bas-relief illustrating the definition of each "a" word.
Viewer was invited to read, assess, and even remove descriptions placed as headpieces on "A" frame. As viewer moved around the room, his shadow joined the "a” pages, united by the movement of the shadow of time. Synchronized soundtrack united the piece with a relentless drone dirge. Game board checkered pattern assisted the participant's choreography and position relative to "A" frame game pieces. The sand and bas-relief added eerie context to the constantly moving shadows in rapid succession.
